Women throughout their lifespan can have problems with their bladder, bowel and pelvic floor. From childhood, when myths are handed down inadvertently from grandmother to mother to child; due to pregnancy and childbirth (regardless of mode of delivery); due to menopause and of course with aging, incontinence, prolapse, bowel difficulties and pelvic pain – these are issues that cause much grief for women. However interventions are available and often easy and very successful at improving quality of life and confidence for women in this most personal area. This is what prompted me to write my two books – ‘Pelvic Floor Recovery: Physiotherapy for Gynaecological and Colorectal Repair Surgery’ and ‘Pelvic Floor Essentials’. Simple education can change your life and whilst the information is based on science it definitely is not rocket science and the books are written for everyone to easily understand.
It is important to realize that ‘Earlier rather than later’ must be your motto, but remember it is also ‘never too late’! Regardless of age and severity, it is important to seek help from reading the Pelvic Floor Recovery and Pelvic Floor Essentials books and definitely find a Pelvic Health physiotherapist in your region and make changes to improve your pelvic floor dysfunction.
